First United States-South Africa Women’s Business Forum to Be Held in Chicago

USSAWBF logoA few months ago, we had the privilege of meeting with Consul General Amb. Nomvume P. Magaqa to learn more about women business owners in South Africa and the upcoming first annual United States-South Africa Women in Business Forum (USSAWBF).  The Consul General’s passion for assisting these women in business development and economic empowerment is the same passion that has driven the work of the Women’s Business Development Center for the past 25 years, and the WBDC is honored to co-sponsor the USSAWBF on October 24-28, 2011 in Chicago.

The Consulate will launch the Forum on August 9, 2011, to coincide with South Africa’s National Women’s Day.  At this media launch event next week, the Consulate will announce the South African companies and female executives participating in the Forum as well as all additional partners and sponsors.  The Consulate has already welcomed the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council (CMSDC), the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Midwest Broadcasting Corporation as event sponsors.

We are excited for this unique opportunity for U.S. and South African women business owners to gather together, network and build business relationships.  The Forum will offer women business owners solutions to business challenges, access to new opportunities and connections to corporate and government buyers, business experts and other women business owners.  It will also serve as a powerful new agent for progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment in business, for although women in South Africa have continued to make visible progress, the trend remains slow and women tend to be under-represented in top positions.  Empowering women in business in South Africa, as well as the United States, is a major step towards building stronger economies and solidifying a presence in an increasingly globally integrated world.

We invite you to join us on October 24-28 at the first annual United States – South Africa Women’s Business Forum.  For more information, please click here.
